KABUL Cheap Samson Ebukam Jersey , Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Ordinary Afghans, most of them unaware of political developments, often bear the brunt of terrorist attacks that have almost become routine in the strife- torn country.
Farid, a nine-year-old Grade 3 pupil, lost his father when Khair Mohammad, 35, was killed in a suicide bomb attack in Kabul last Tuesday.

Mohammad was the lone breadwinner for a family of 11. He has nine children and his father lives with them.

A footage of the family of Mohammad, broadcast on Tolo television Thursday, showed his wife and children were living in a shanty house. The barefooted children were wearing tattered clothes.

Farid is not alone in feeling the pain of war and militancy in Afghanistan.
Also on Tuesday, a suicide bomb attack against a police station in Logar's provincial capital of Pul-e-Alam, 60 km south of Kabul, killed 23 people, including eight civilians and four assailants, and injured eight others.

CANBERRA, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Endangered Australian fish have taken to seek refuge in discarded bottles in river beds, research published on Tuesday found.
The study, compiled by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), found that discarded bottles at the bottom of Tasmania's Derwent River were playing a key role in saving the spotted handfish from extinction.

Tim Lynch, a CSIRO senior researcher, said that discarded beer bottles had proved to be an ideal breeding location for the fish after their traditional breeding grounds were destroyed by man-made structures and pest species such as seastars.
"The seastars can't eat the bottles at least, and we often find spotted handfish hiding behind discarded bottles," Lynch told Australian media on Tuesday.
"There's quite a few bottles out there, I think there is some places where people have mooring up their yachts or windjammers since the 1800s and drinking their rum and throwing them overboard."
Lynch said artificial habitats such as the bottles would be a large part of conservation efforts in the future.

"Let's let people have a look at these things -- hardly anyone has seen them," Lynch said.
"They shouldn't be a rare fish, they used to be very common. There should be a spotted handfish every five meters of so in good habitat."
